Amílcar Cabral Society

Let Us Think a New Haiti!

On October 1, 2018, ten high school seniors gathered in a restaurant in Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite. There, they agreed to form a group dedicated to study and action-oriented reflection. They took the name Société Amilcar Cabral in honor of late African thinker and revolutionary, Amícar Cabral, and as an expression of their commitment to the kind of rigorous and intelligent analyses for which he is remembered.

We also know that on the political level our own reality — however fine and attractive the reality of others may be — can only be transformed by detailed knowledge of it, by our own efforts, by our own sacrifices.” — “The Weapon of Theory”

A gifted theoretician, Cabral led the liberation movement against Portuguese colonialism in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. He was assassinated in 1973, shortly before his dream became a reality. His insights into the dynamics of the process of decolonization remain relevant today. His life and work are the inspiration for the Amílcar Cabral Society.
